Orthodoxy

Orthodoxy (from Greek orthos - «right», «true», «straight» and doxa «opinion» or «belief») is the direction in Christianity that was formed in the east of the Roman Empire during the first millennium AD. The Roman Emperor Constantine I made a major contribution to the process of its formation that was started in the II-III centuries AD. Orthodoxy professes the Nicene-Constantinople symbol of faith and recognizes the orders of seven ecumenical councils. Orthodoxy is opposed to heterodoxy, heresy and schism.
