Exhibition of monumental murals from the Transfiguration Church

In the Art Gallery of Polotsk National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve opened a unique exhibition of monumental murals of the Church of Saviour Transfiguration in Polock.
More than 7 years restorers from Belarus and Russia were working on the paintings of the walls of the temple. Remove the oil image layer by layer experts have reached to the XII century frescoes that were painted by the Byzantine masters invited of Euphrosyne of Polotsk for the construction of the church. This fresco, which appeared in the first temple, and they now remain on its walls.
Taken on a new restoration technology layers of images of the XIX century were fixed and transferred to the canvases which is now represented in the Art Gallery.
The exhibition presents the two layers of frescoes - 1885 and 1835. Nothing like this is not only in our country but also in the world. The results of such restoration in other places can be seen only in small fragments, in Polotsk also presents huge compositions of the 2 - 2.5 meters.
Monumental images will be demonstrated at the Art Gallery of Polotsk National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve before the end of 2014.
