The Monument to Yanka Kupala in the village of Liauki is a memorial dedicated to the outstanding Belarusian poet, located in the Orsha District of the Vitebsk Region. The monument was erected in 1982 on the grounds of the Kupala Memorial Reserve “Liauki”, where the poet lived and worked from 1935 to 1941.
History
In 1935, Yanka Kupala first visited the village of Liauki and was captivated by the beauty of the local landscape. Inspired by the surrounding nature, the poet decided to build a summer house on the banks of the Dnieper River, where he spent every summer until 1941. Many works that became part of the so-called “Liauki cycle” were created here. In 1982, for the poet’s 100th anniversary, a monument to Yanka Kupala was unveiled on the grounds of the reserve. The sculpture was created by Anatol Anikeichik.
Architecture
The monument features a bronze sculpture of the poet seated on a bench in a thoughtful pose, mounted on a granite pedestal 0.4 meters high. The figure itself is 2.7 meters tall. The composition reflects Yanka Kupala in his mature years, conveying his deep connection to his homeland and people. The sculpture fits harmoniously into the natural surroundings, emphasizing the poet’s unity with nature, which inspired his work.
