Complex of buildings of the brewery
The Complex of Brewery Buildings in Lida is a unique architectural and industrial ensemble that combines historical heritage with modern technology. Here, at the intersection of old streets and the Lideyka River, the spirit of Belarusian brewing is carefully preserved. Among the buildings are a two-story brick factory with an office, a drying facility, a fermentation department, and the founder’s house. This site is of interest to both history enthusiasts and lovers of traditional beer. Visiting the complex has become an important part of excursions across Belarus, especially for those who wish to book an excursion with a tour of not only cultural but also gastronomic landmarks.
History
The history of brewing in Lida dates back to the 16th century, when local townspeople, having received Magdeburg rights, were granted permission to brew beer. By 1590, the first brewery had already been established, and by the 1680s, dozens of taverns operated in the city. The history of Lida’s brewing industry is closely tied to Nosel Zelikovich Pupko — a merchant of the second guild, who built the modern factory in 1876. His family’s legacy survived wars, mobilization, and prohibition laws, and after the revolution, the plant was adapted to new demands, starting production of the legendary Lida kvass. In the 21st century, the enterprise was revived thanks to investments from the Finnish company Olvi Oyj. In 2022, the Museum of Lida Brewery was opened here — the result of many years of development and restoration of the historic complex.
Excursions
A visit to the brewery complex and the Museum of Lida Brewery is more than just a walk through an old enterprise — it is a full-fledged excursion across Belarus, revealing deep layers of culture, gastronomy, and industrial history. Tourists who decide to book an excursion with a tour will be able not only to walk through the historical workshops but also to peek into the heart of modern production.
Special attention is paid to the Museum of Lida Beer, which was opened on the company's birthday — March 29, 2022. Tour guides explain in detail how brewing traditions developed on Belarusian lands since the 16th century, how monastic and noble beer types differed, and which drinks were popular during festive days. The museum features a rich collection of historical artifacts: bottles and labels from past years, old beer barrels, documents, photographs, and advertising materials from different eras. Visitors can also observe the production process through special viewing windows and multimedia installations, see giant fermentation tanks, learn about the intricacies of filtering and bottling, and finally, participate in a tasting of fresh beverages — signature beer and the legendary Lida kvass.
