Church of Vergin Maria in Konstantinovo

Type: Katolik churches Style: Classicism Date of Foundation: 1896 year Status: Regional value Republic of Belarus, Minsk region, Myadel district, Konstantinovo

The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Konstantinovo is one of the most significant Catholic churches in the Minsk region, located in the village of Konstantinovo, Myadel district. Built on a picturesque hilltop, it immediately draws attention with its austere and elegant appearance. This site combines spiritual power, historical depth, and architectural expressiveness, making it an attractive destination for a trip from Minsk.

History

The church's fate is closely intertwined with the history of the village of Konstantinovo, formerly known as Slobodka. In the 18th century, the land was purchased by Konstantin Khominsky, who gave the village its present name. He initiated the construction of the first chapel, and in 1793 a wooden church was built on its site. However, military conflicts in the early 19th century destroyed both the church and the village. At the end of the century, thanks to the efforts of Frantisek Pashkevich and later Viktor Starzhinsky and Alexander Khominsky, a stone church was erected.

Despite political shifts in the 20th century, the church remained active — services continued even during Soviet times. The care and dedication of the parishioners helped preserve the shrine in nearly its original state, and it still serves its spiritual mission today.

Architecture

The church building, constructed in 1896, reflects the style of neoclassicism. Its clean lines, symmetry, gabled roof, and neat turret give the structure a noble and restrained look. A stone fence and rectangular gates complement the ensemble harmoniously.

The interior is divided into zones by elegant brick columns covered with plaster. The decor impresses with delicate wooden carvings adorning the walls and pulpit. A special highlight is the old organ and the altar with an image of the Virgin Mary and Child — elements that contribute to the solemn atmosphere typical of authentic Catholic sanctuaries.
