The Romance

Romanesque style (from Lat. romanus - Rome) - the artistic style that prevailed in Western Europe (and also has affected some countries in Eastern Europe) in the X-XII centuries (in some places - and in the XIII century.), one of the milestones in the development of medieval European art. The most fully expressed in architecture. Romance for buildings characterized by a combination of clear and concise architectural silhouette exterior. The building looks sturdy and solid, contribute to this massive walls with narrow openings of windows and a step-recessed portals.

The main buildings in this period have become a temple-fortress and castle. Monuments of Romanesque art are scattered throughout Western Europe. Most of them in France. In Belarus the style represented by the fortress-castles in Novogrudok, Lida, Grodno, Mir, etc.
