Tankman's Day

11 and 12 September 2021 with the support of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus on the territory historical and cultural complex «Stalin Line» there will be events dedicated to the Day of the Tanker.

Tankman's day – professional holiday of tankers and tank builders, which is celebrated annually on the second Sunday of September. This holiday was established on July 11, 1946 by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR to commemorate the outstanding merits of tank and mechanized troops in the Great Patriotic War, as well as the merits of tank builders in equipping the Armed Forces with armored vehicles.

For military services to the homeland, many tank and mechanized formations were awarded orders, transformed into guards and received honorary names after the names of those cities and regions in the battles for which they distinguished themselves. During the Patriotic War, 250 thousand tankers were awarded government awards, 1142 tankers were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. The first Belarusian to be awarded this honor was the tank commander Pavel Yemelyanovich Kupriyanov, a native of the Vitebsk region. Many tankmen were twice awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Three of them are our fellow countrymen, natives of the Mogilev region: Marshal of the Soviet Union Ivan Ignatievich Yakubovsky, General of the Army Joseph Iraklievich Gusakovsky and Colonel Stepan Fedorovich Shutov.
