Grodno celebrates 882 years

Grodno celebrates the City's Day on 2nd Saturday of September. One of the most beautiful and most ancient cities of Belarus, an administrative centre of Grodno region attracts with the monuments of history and architecture. Among sights of the city it is necessary to note Kalozhskaya or Borisoglebskaya church which has been erected in the first half of XII century. In city centre rises the Catholic Cathedral, the Cathedral of St. Frantsisk Ksavery. It is remarkable that on the consecration of this Cathedral in 1705 were present the Polish king August and the Russian emperor Peter I. Besides, other temples and city monasteries, Old and New locks, and also the first drugstore on the territory of Eastern Europe and many other things are interesting. Among the well-known citizens of the city were polish king Stefan Batory, polish writer Eliza Ozheshko, Belarussian poet Maxim Bogdanovich, writer Vasil Bykov, artist Lev Bakst and others. Citizens and guests are expected by numerous entertaining actions in parks of rest and at concert platforms of the city.
