The festival of medieval culture ”Rubon-2010” in the town of Polotsk

From the 15th till the 16th of May, 2010 the festival of medieval culture "Rubon", timed to Polotsk 1148th anniversary will be held in this ancient town . The word "Rubon" is not only an ancient name of the Western Dvina, but also a battle cry of Polotsk soldiers. The event will be organised in front of St.Sophia's Cathedral.

The festival will be held as traditional tournaments for heavily armed cuirassiers and "Ratnoye koleso" for lightly armed soldiers. Guests will be able to see the most interesting and massive battle - bugurty. The competitions of archers and horsemen will be organized. In addition the guests will see the storming of the castle.

The guests can try their hand at Slavonic traditional merrymakings - archery, throwing spears (old spear), dances in sabotonas (large iron boots). A Many jewelers, blacksmiths, potters, weavers, tanners and other craftsmen are expected to attend the festival. In addition the guests will be able to see and enjoy the contest of street theater groups and performances of the medival and folk bands.

The closing ceremony will be marked by the concert of a famous band "Stary Olsa" !
