Barys was the son of the legendary Vseslav the Sorcerer. After his father’s death in 1101, he took the Polotsk throne. The prince actively spread Christianity in Belarusian lands, and his name has been preserved in history thanks to the "Barys Stones" – ancient epigraphic monuments that have survived to this day.
In 2002, on the occasion of the city's 900th anniversary, a monument to Prince Barys was erected. The monument is located near the Holy Resurrection Cathedral in the old part of Barysau, precisely where the city was founded. The local history museum holds numerous exhibits and materials dedicated to the prince, his lineage, and his rule.

Brylevsky Field
"In consciousness of the French people Berezina is associated with a series of misfortunes which pursued a campaign of Napoleonic army... I decline the head before memory of the French and Russian soldiers who were at war here. I decline the head before the Belarusian earth which became a shelter for these soldiers" - these words of the ambassador of France reflect memory of many people whose representatives were at war and have died here in 1812. The Berezinsky crossing near Borisov, according to historians, became the most gloomy page of history of wars of Napoleon. Having lost about 50 thousand people, the most part of artillery and wagon trains, on November 26 the French army has ceased to exist as organized fighting force. Events of those years store memorial signs of the Brilevsky field. -
