June 21st «Muhovetska Cumorah» holds pagan ritual celebration «Kupalo»

June was once called Cherven that translates as red. This month is the most beautiful month of the summer. June 21st is considered to be the summer solstice as during this period the day becomes longer and the night - shorter. Also June 21st is called Sun's day. According to the ancient Slavic calendar Kupalo was celebrated from 21st till 22d June. This holiday tributes raises Yarylo - Almighty God of the Sun.

Programme:

21.00 – 22.00 – weaving wreaths, craft workshops, tasting of old Belarusian cuisine rite «beer marriage» when overall wine bowl is poured at the same time a few beers.

22.00 – 23.00 - kindling sacred campfires on the shores of reservoirs, descent wreaths on the water, the night «procession» with banners, torches (flashlights) and singing hymns appropriate head Magi bearing on the pole doll Yarily (rite «fiery burial» straw dolls Yarily) rite of purification by fire.
