Museum complex of ancient national crafts and technologies Dudutki
The Dudutki Museum Complex is located just 40 kilometers from Minsk, in a picturesque area of the Pukhavichy district, near the Ptich River. It is one of the best places for excursions in Belarus, offering an immersive experience into the atmosphere of a noble estate and traditional craftsmanship.
The History of Dudutki – a Place Mentioned in Chronicles
Dudutki was first mentioned in chronicles in the 11th century. According to researchers, this was where the overland route to Polotsk passed. According to "The Tale of Igor's Campaign," the Polotsk prince Vseslav the Sorcerer rode "like a wolf to the Nemiga from Dudutki" upon learning about the attack on ancient Minsk.
The noble estate in Dudichi has existed since 1600. Over the years, it belonged to various noble families, including the Odakhovsky, Bykhovets, Prozorov, and Elsky families. In the 19th century, Dudichi became a cultural center thanks to Mikhail Elsky, a renowned violinist and composer.
In 1766, King Stanislaw Poniatowski granted Dudichi the privilege of holding weekly markets and annual fairs. Crafts flourished here, and local artisans sold their handmade goods, making Dudichi an important trade center.
In the 20th century, Dudichi lost its historical significance. However, in 1992, entrepreneur Budinas E. D. initiated the restoration of the area. In 1994, the Dudutki Museum Complex was established on the basis of the "Polifact" farm. Today, it is one of the most popular excursions from Minsk.
