A longtime custom to celebrate the evening on the eve of the New Year by the old style was called Shchodryk, Shchadrets. On this day, they cooked the second (rich, generous) kutyu, pancakes with gravy and fried sausage, porridge, soup, etc., where the dishes were given a magical ritual meaning.

Shchadrets is the evening of fortune telling. Both adults and children, especially unmarried girls, who wanted to find out what awaits them in the future, wondered. The rite of «shchadravannya» was determined by going around the courtyards by a group who were generous with «Generous» - a beautiful girl who was dressed in festive clothing. They sang songs, were generous, glorified the owner with the mistress, and their household.

In the Belarusian State Museum of Folk Architecture and Life traditional shchadravans will hold this day: «Gypsy», «Generously». You can also tell fortunes, learn how to dance Belarusian dances, take part in various Christmas competitions! And the most active participants will receive prizes from the museum!
