«L'elisir d'amore» is an opera by Gaetano Donizetti in 2 acts, 4 scenes, to a libretto by Felice Romani based on the French libretto by Eugene Scribe, written for Daniel Auber's opera «Love Potion». The premiere took place on May 12, 1832 at the Teatro della Canobbiana in Milan.

The action takes place in an Italian village on the outskirts of Rome, in the 30s of the XIX century. Adina is an incredibly attractive and wealthy young lady who owns several farms. She is passionate about books that describe beautiful love stories. She reads one of them to her friend Jeannette. At this time, aside, they are watched by the unrequitedly in love Nemorino, who overheard with the corner of his ear that with the help of a magic potion, the heroes of the book were able to fall in love with each other.
