On September 8th, 2012 the celebration of City Day will pass in Minsk. This year it will be devoted to Year of the book and anniversary of Belarusian writers Janka Kupala and Jakub Kolas.

The history of the holiday begins since 2001 when the holiday of September began to be considered as the City Day of Minsk. In 2012 Minsk celebrates the 945th anniversary from the date of the first mention in «The story of temporary years» in 1067.
This year during the City Day in honor of the 130 anniversary since the birth of Janka Kupala and Jakub Kolas a holiday «Pesnyary rodnogo kraya», and also the Book exhibition will pass at the square of Janka Kupala.

On September 8th will pass representations in the open air before a main entrance in the Great theater of opera and a ballet, a holiday of choral art at National library, and also a holiday at the square of Janka Kupala. This day Revolyutsionnaya and Komsomolskaya Street become pedestrian and will turn into streets of masters where it will be possible to estimate and buy works of masters of woodcarving, strawplaiting, embroideries, potter's craft. Here master classes of these arts will be carried out.

At the territory of the Verhnij Gorod will organize thematic representations «Minsk historical», «Minsk musical», «Minsk theatrical» and many other. The exhibition-sale of masters national creativity accompanied by performances of creative collectives will invite to make walk down the street Charles Marks.

The festival of street musicians will take place in Troitskoe Predmestie. On a small scenic platforms youth musical collectives and performers will sing. The most different genres - from classics before bardov singing, from folklore to rock and other directions are allowed.

On the occasion of the City Day in all districts of the capital will pass flower-laying ceremonies to monuments, memorial boards and signs. Festive performances of professional and amateur creative collectives, concerts, programs for children and youth, sports competitions, arts and crafts exhibitions will be organized.

    On September 10, 2025, at 18:00, the Mikhail Savitsky Art Gallery will open a personal exhibition of the People's Artist of Belarus Vladimir Tolstik. The exhibition, organized jointly with the National Art Museum and the National Center for Contemporary Arts, is dedicated to the Minsk City Day.

    Visitors will see genre and allegorical compositions, portraits and urban canvases of the master, which combine the traditions of the Renaissance, romantic historicism and the Belarusian school of painting. A special place is occupied by the work My Academy, dedicated to the creative atmosphere of the Academy of Arts.
