Minsk is the capital and largest city in Belarus. Like many cities in the world, Minsk has its own holiday - the Day of the city. The name of the city (Mensk) went to the river Menka. Minsk was first mentioned in chronicles in 1067 year. Archaeological excavations indicate, on the right bank of the Svisloch river, at the confluence of the river Nyamiha, the second half of the 11th century the ancient citadel was built, the very same city emerged in the 16 kilometers from the citadel, where was a Menka river, but by the end of the century, the town was moved to a modern place.
